Notes of great captains and discoverers
The vintage map of the world has a few interesting features. The one we like the most is probably the markings and notes from logbooks of the great captains and discoverers. You can find voyages of Abel Tasman, James Cook, George Vancouver and Christopher Columbus to mention a few. There are markings of many historical events like James Cook’s death date and place in Hawaii and the discovery of Tasmania – at the time called Van Diemen’s Land. The amount of information on this large vintage map is very generous, and if you are interested in a bit of history, it will be a great source of entertainment for you.
Daniel Lizars from Edinburgh is the author of the map. He published the map at the beginning of the 1830s. Soon after his map was published, his business went bankrupt and he moved to Canada with his family.
Sit down, have a drink, relax and observe the vintage map of the world
If you like history and you know a few people that do too, this map is perfect for you. The markings on the map are a limitless source of conversation starters. To add a vintage and genuine feel to the map, we used over 100 years old chestnut wood for the frame and hand-forged rusty steel hardware – nails, hinges and stylised lilies at the ends of the bottom frame. It will fit perfectly on a wall in a poolroom, a sitting room next to a piano, library, a lounge room opposite to a fireplace or nice vintage dining room. Pour yourself and your mate a whiskey or gin and tonic if you prefer, sit down and observe the world displayed on your wall!
